YASAKA JINJA -Kyoto

京都の八坂神社での秋分祭のお話

YASAKA JINJA (八坂神社) -Yasaka Shrine- Kyoto is one of the famous shrines in Kyoto or even in Japan.

This shrine is a Shinto shrine in the district of Gion in Kyoto.
This shrine has many MATSURI (祭り) - festival - take place.

The photos snap moments from their moon viewing festival that takes place on SHUUBUN NO HI (秋分の日) - Autumn Equinox / Coming of Autumn.
So in the photo, you can see SUSUKI (ススキ) - Japanese golden grass - which is the grass that is typically displayed on the side of TSUKIMI DANGO (月見だんご) - rice cakes for moon viewing - when you have a moon viewing festival.

These CHOUCHIN (提灯) - Japanese lanterns - have names on them.
Those names are the ones who have made some contributions to the shrine.
So it is a way of showing their appreciation to those contributors.

Also in the photo, you can see people playing instruments.
This is one of their performances at the festival.

In the season of fall, we have so many traditional festivals all over Japan.
Also the weather is perfect for sightseeing too because it is not too cold or hot.
So if you are planning on coming to Japan, fall is the season to do!
